Bram Mathers is an average 17-year-old boy living in the small town of McMinnville, Oregon. When he is possessed by both good and evil spirits, Bram is abruptly thrown into a world of dangerous people with extraordinary abilities.
After Bram becomes possessed, he travels to downtown Portland. Here he visits The Alliance, a safe haven for those who are hosts to uncorrupted souls. At the Alliance, Bram trains to become a Manumitter, a person who exorcises harmful spirits from possessed people. Bram must work hard to learn how to control his new psychic powers while struggling to suppress James, the shrewd and vicious spirit that lives inside him.
Bram’s adventures drag him through the streets of Old Town Portland and the infamous underground Shanghai tunnels. Here Bram desperately fights to save the lives of the people that he cares about. But can he protect them from the ruthless being which dwells within him?
